Students - Co-op and Internship Programs :
Our programs combine classroom theory with career-related work experience. Through co-op, you alternate semesters of full-time study with semesters of full-time paid employment. A summer internship is full-time employment during the summer that may lead into a part-time internship during the school year. The majority of our positions, whether co-op jobs or internships, are paid. The Engineering Co-op Program is a non-credit bearing program. Our programs are open to undergraduate and graduate students in all majors in the School of Engineering. Students must have a 2.0 GPA and be enrolled in a degree program.

Here's how you will benefit from a co-op or internship position:
Professional Experience. Make sure you get the job you want after graduation by getting a job before graduation. Serious engineering experience will ensure that you and your resume always get noticed first.
Money. Save for school, save for a car, or save for fun. Stop by the office and ask for a copy of our latest salary survey or check out our latest Salary Survey online.
Confidence. The key to confidence in an interview (and in life) is to have significant experiences to learn from and talk about. Experience lets you talk to other engineers as colleagues.
Contacts. Meet the people who are doing what you want to do. It's who you know AND what you know - an unbeatable combination.
Skills. Learn new technical skills and those essential life skills; organization, teamwork, meeting deadlines, and taking initiative. You may be surprised that even school seems easier.
Practice. You learned it in school, now put it to use. The big picture comes into focus.
Knowledge. Did you choose the right major? Do you like the work environment? Would you do anything differently next time? It's better to learn these answers sooner rather than later.
Travel. Sure, most of our jobs are in the Washington Metro area; however, there are a lot of opportunities if you want to try out a different environment. How about California or Florida or New York or Arizona or…...
A Job Offer. Just think, maybe you won't have to look for a job after graduation because you'll already have a great offer from your current employer!
To enroll in the Engineering Co-op Program, you must be a degree-seeking student in the School of Engineering. In addition, undergraduate students must have a minimum of a 2.0 GPA, and graduate students must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.
Steps for Finding a Co-op, Summer Internship, or Part-Time Position
1. We encourage you to attend an eLink Workshop.
2. Read your Engineering Co-op Student Handbook.
3. Attend a Resume Writing Workshop.
4. Create a resume in Microsoft Word.
5. Bring your resume to the Engineering Co-op Office for a critique.
6. Login to eLink, complete your profile, and upload your resume.
7. Attend an Interview Workshop.
8. Explore and apply for job listings and on-campus interviews through eLink.
9. Request resumes to be sent to employers through eLink.
10. Sign-up for on-campus interviews through eLink.
11. Supplement your job search (see Student Handbook).
12. Interview for positions.
13. Accept a job offer and let us know!

If you accept an offer for a co-op position, you will also need to enroll in the Engineering Co-op Program. Simply stop by the Engineering Co-op Office with your offer letter. During your visit you will be asked to complete and sign the following forms:
- Co-op Student Agreement Form (pdf)
- Work-Study Schedule (pdf)
- Work-Study Plan (pdf)
In addition, if you are an International Student you must meet the requirements for work authorization and your employer will also need to sign our Co-op Employer Agreement Form.
